a bit of trivia

Strat-O-Matic Report

Strat-O-Matic Report

Now that all teams have at least one win or loss, let's see how the current best or worst teams in baseball compare to the best or worst starts for the various teams. The list will have each teams best or worst starts with the number of wins or losses that they currently have, and will include winless or undefeated starts if it would be better or worse. For instance, Cleveland is 1-7. Their worst start ever is 0-8, but their worst with only one win is 1-15 in a different season. Both are listed. The Red Sox, who are 7-1, their best unbeaten start (before this year's 7-0 at least) is less than the seven wins they have now, so the undefeated start isn't listed. Hopefully it all makes sense.

For the best starts:

Boston 7-1 (in four way tie for best start in history)
Oakland 7-1 (tied for second best, best are 11-0 and 17-1, both in 1981)
Milwaukee 7-2 (second best start in history, best are 13-0 and 18-2 both in 1987)

and now the worst:

Cleveland 1-7 (tied for second worst, worst is 0-8 in 1914 and 1-15 in 1969)
Texas 1-7 (in three way tie for second worst start, worst is 1-10 in 1987)
NY Mets 1-7 (tied for second worst, worst is 0-8 in 1962 and 1963 and 1-12 in 1962)

Thanks to baseballreference, I figured this all out.
