| The Red Sox knock C. C. Sabitha from the game in the 2nd inning with a four run outburst, but the Yankee relievers hold them scoreless the rest of the game. New York scores three runs in the 6th off of Josh Beckett, a run off of Dan Wheeler in the 7th to tie the game, and the deciding three runs in the 8th off of losing pitcher Alfredo Aceves whose first decision in a Sox uniform goes south. No lack of trying for the Sox as they get runners on second and third in the bottom of the 9th with one out against Mariano Rivera, but Rivera bears down striking out J. D. Drew and Jason Varitek to end the game. |
