April 3, 2011 Astros 4, Phillies 3 (10)

Former Phillie Michael Bourn is a pain in the Phillies side today with three stolen bases, the biggest being a steal of second in the Astros 10th inning. That put him in easy position to score on a triple for Hunter Pence off of Antonio Bastardo (or The Bastard as I call him), and the Phillies get knocked from the unbeaten ranks with their first loss of the season.

With the first series for each team complete, that leaves five teams still unbeaten, and obviously five winless. Running 3-0 are both Sox, Red and White, in the AL and the Marlins and Braves in the NL. At 0-3 are the opponents of those four teams the Rangers, Indians, Mets and Nationals. Arizona is 2-0 and Colorado at 0-2 with their scheduled game today postponed due to snow. Obviously, the game wasn't in Phoenix. :)

A little tidbit about that postponed Arizona/Colorado game. The day before, the teams played in abnormally warm 84 degree weather. The morning was almost 70, but by game time it dropped down into the 30s with snow falling.

The Houston Astros nipped the Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings 4 to 3 at
Citizens Bank Park in a hard fought contest.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Houston won it in the 10th
inning. After an out was recorded, Michael Bourn drew a walk. Bourn took
off for second and slid in with a stolen base. Angel Sanchez followed, but
he was set down on strikes. Hunter Pence stepped in and he tripled. Carlos
Lee stepped into the box and drew a walk. Houston finished with 10 hits in
the victory.

The victory was credited to Enerio Del Rosario(1-0) who went 2 innings,
allowing no runs. Mark Melancon recorded the save, his 1st. Antonio
Bastardo(0-1) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 1 hit in 1
inning.
