April 2, 2011 Red Sox 7, Rangers 6

The Sox go to 2-0 on the young season with another nail-biting win in Texas and a duplicate of last game's score. Adrain Gonzalez drives home 5 teammates via a 3-run homerun in th 5th, an RBI single in the 7th and an RBI fielders choice in the first inning, but it is an insurance run that the Red Sox get in the 8th inning for a 3 run lead that is the most important. After Tim Wakefield goes two perfect innings in relief of John Lackey, I just leave him in for the 9th and the possible 3 inning save. After an out, he allows a single and a walk so Papelbon takes over. Just like yesterday Paps shows the rust with a walk to load the bases and then a 2-run single for Mike Napoli puts Texas within a run. But just like yesterday, Paps bears down and strikes out the final two hitters to preserve the win and get save number two.

Almost eerie how similar the two games are. Both had the same score (7-6), both had a Red Sox player getting 5 RBI (Gonzalez today, Crawford yesterday), and both games almost had Papelbon implode in the 9th for a Texas comeback but he holds on for the save in both games.

First baseman Adrian Gonzalez connected with a 'big fly' and had 5 RBI as the
Boston Red Sox defeated the Texas Rangers by a score of 7 to 6 at Rangers
Ballpark.

Gonzalez had a big evening at the plate. He launched a three-run homer in the
5th inning and stroked a one-base hit which scored a run in the 7th inning.
Texas threatened in the 9th but Boston was able to put down the rally.

The winning pitcher was John Lackey(1-0) who allowed 4 runs in 6 innings.
Jonathan Papelbon recorded the save, his 2nd. Colby Lewis(0-1) was charged
with the loss.

'Anytime you lose it hurts,' said Ron Washington 'but it's losing the close
ones that really hurt.'
